An evangelical couple and their young son venture into the Brazilian Amazon rainforest to catechize indigenous people who are still wary of the notion of God. Martin Quarrier is a sociologist motivated by the experiences of another couple, the Huben. Religious intentions and harmony between whites and indigenous people are shaken by the presence of Lewis Moon, a mercenary descended from native Americans. His contact with the forest leads him to question his origins.
