Jury Prize is disputed by 117 films in the New Directors Competition section

São Paulo International Film Festival, which takes place from October 19th to November 1st, dedicates the New Directors Competition section to filmmakers that are presenting their first or second feature film. All the 117 movies that make up the section in 2023 compete for the Bandeira Paulista Trophy.

The audience of the 47th Mostra select their favorite films, which, later, will be evaluated by the Jury –this year, it is formed by actress, producer and director Bárbara Paz; Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica; Italian director and producer Enrica Fico Antonioni; Irish filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson; Mariëtte Rissenbeek, Dutch and the general director of the Berlin Film Festival; and transdisciplinary artist, director and writer Welket Bungué, from Guinea Bissau.

The list of New Directors Competition has films presented in international festival, such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, Rotterdam, Toronto, Sundance, San Sebastián, Karlovy Vary, Tribeca and Cinema du Réel. 

Brazil participates with six films, along with movies from more than 50 countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Benin, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Cape Green, Cameroon, Canada, Qatar, Chile, China, Cyprus, South Korea, Costa Rica, Spain, USA, Philippines, France, Greece, Netherlands, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Kosovo, Lithuania, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Morocco, Moldova, Namibia, Norway, New Zealand, Panama, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Dominican Republic, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland , Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay and Vietnam.
