India is the guest of honour at this 48th Mostra. The collection of 30 feature films, both contemporary and classic, brought together in the Spotlight on India selection and in the retrospective in honour of Satyajit Ray, offers a comprehensive view of the country`s cinematography, a world leader in film production.

Satyajit Ray (1921-1992), in addition to signing the poster art for this edition, is also being honoured with a retrospective that brings together seven films from the first and most decisive decade of the director`s filmography, as a delicate x-ray of the transformations and tensions in Indian society, and which includes the films of the Apu Trilogy.

The selection of contemporary Indian films in the Mostra reveals that the filmmakers of the new generations are still keeping their eyes and ears open to capture the realities of a country in which modernity and tradition, exuberance and simplicity go side by side. Titles screened and awarded at festivals such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice take us to this culture that seems far away, but which cinema brings much closer.

One of the highlights of Spotlight on India is the restored version of ‘Kummatty’ (1979). Govindan Aravindan`s classic is part of the 1st Mostrinha, along with ‘Boong’.
