Vodka Lemon (2003)
Sobre o filme
In a scenario like nothing on this earth, in wintertime, a courageous father crosses the path of a Mother-Courage, equally a survivor of many a past tragedy. They are on their way to the cemetery where both are, respectively, in the process of burying wife and husband. He has an alcoholic son, a granddaughter, and a "hope-son" who has gone to seek work in Paris. A military pension of seven dollars monthly and old furniture – that he gradually lets go of throughout the film to continue surviving – is all he has in the world. A great number of details make up this mosaic on resistance, dignity, love, and solidarity. ‘Vodka Lemon’ takes place in post-Soviet Armenia where "there is freedom, but nothing else," according to one survivor. "I don?t know how they survive up until today. I don’t believe they themselves understand exactly how. They face life with continued optimism – the absurdity that confronts them with optimism, poverty with love, lives changing from tragedy to comedy, these are the elements that led me to cinema," says the film maker. Prize for Best Film in the Countercurrent Session.
