Tarnation (2004)
Sobre o filme
First-timer Jonathan Caouette made this film all in iMovie, a basic program for digital editing given free with any Macintosh computer. The sensation in the Sundance Festival in 2004, the film tells the disturbing and emotional family history of the filmmaker and consists of photographs, images of homemade videos of the seventies and eighties and interviews with his mother and grandmother. All of the images of the production are from his personal file (super 8 VHS, Digital 8 Mini-DV, photographs) and well kept audio material (cassettes, messages over an answering machine). According to the director, the idea was to make a catharsis of the ghosts of the past and pay tribute to his mother Renée who has spent the last three decades in psychiatric institutions.
