Sobre o filme

The story takes place in the early fifties. Young widow Freya is back once more to Iceland after a long time away in the United States where she went with her husband, an American officer she met during World War II. Newly-divorced, she has nowhere to go, other than to her former family home in the fishing village in the vicinity of Reykjavic. The house is already somewhat full, with six other women whose main function it is to keep the fire burning while the patriarch of the family spends most of the time away, fishing on the high seas. Freya is a woman of extraordinary beauty and fully aware of this. Her objective now is to use her gifts to improve in life and exit from the dire straits she is in. The men fall at her feet, but the women spit venom. Freya is, in fact, an enigmatic figure who incarnates a “emme fatale” stereotype, but who can also quickly become a veritable witch. All the facts are told by jealous Agga, age 11, Freya’ cousin, who attributes to her, among other atrocities, two brutal murders that have just been committed in what was formerly a quiet little town.
