Sobre o filme

The war for Algeria’s independence from France is narrated through the story of FLN (Algerian National Freedom Front) leader Ali. The film follows Ali from the moment he joined the FLN - when still a petty thief - to when he and other leaders of the movement were captured and executed at the hands of the French government. Banned for many years in France and in Brazil during the military dictatorship, The Battle of Algiers won the International Critics’ Prize at the 1966 Venice Film Festival and in 1969, when it was released in the United States, it received two Oscar nominations, for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
