Michael Padovis is an American researcher who has set out to prove that William Shakespeare was Spanish in origin, and not British. In the company of his wife, Hélène, he wends his way to a convent in the Serra de Arrábida, in Setúbal, where there are supposedly documents that confirm his assumption. The couple is welcomed by Baltar, the strange guardian of the convent. With a beautiful assistant, he establishes a relationship with the foreign couple that is to prove extremely dangerous.
