Martin (1999)
Sobre o filme
Three tourists from Munich are on a visit to a memorial built on what is left of the Dachau concentration camp. Shortly before returning home, they see there is an argument going on between an old man and one of the staff on the site. They come closer and approach the elderly man who turns out to be a survivor from the camp - Martin Zaidenstadt, age 87. Contrary to the majority of survivors, he chose not to leave. He preferred, rather, to settle in a town not far from the camp. Martin says he does not agree with the way in which the site was rendered immortal and that things happened there that the grass and the flowers now hide. He then catches a bus and disappears in the direction of town. The words cause an impact on the three tourists, who then return to the camp frequently. In the course of four days, they find Martin who is desperately trying to rid himself of the dark shadow of his tragic memories. This lost past that is made evident to the three tourists causes them to ask themselves how the story is told officially, and what the relationship is between historical truth and memory.
