Lars is a young man whose life is devoted to his invalid mother and his job in a gas station. The only light in his tedious everyday life is Julie, the girl next door who always turns up at the gas station. Lars cannot live away from his daily routine until one day when Julie suddenly faints on him and he decides to bring her home. When the girl comes to, feeling confused and disorientated, she believes Lars is her deceased boyfriend, Søren. Faced with this unexpected situation, Lars has to decide whether to bring Julie back to reality or act out her delusion. He ends up pretending to be her ex-boyfriend and for the first time ever he finds some meaning in his life. They delve into a world of their own – isolated and happy – where only both of them know the rules. In the mean time, Lars’s mother and Julie’s parents try to bring them back to reality, in spite of the couple’s resistance.
