Pedro is a homosexual dentist who leads a busy life without commitments. One day, his sister Violeta decides to travel to India with her new boyfriend, and leaves her son Bernardo, age 11, under his uncle?s guardianship. All alone with the boy, Pedro decides to catch up on his relationship with his nephew whom he has practically never seen. Bernardo, in turn, quickly adapts to a routine far from the mother, and is no trouble to his uncle. Violeta and her boyfriend, however, are soon in dire straits in India and are to serve a goodly sentence in jail there. Pedro?s responsibility is for his nephew, whom he must care for, as from now, devotedly, and over the long term. If the change in the situation does not bring embarrassment to Pedro nor to Bernardo, Dona Teresa, the boy?s maternal grandmother is filled with consternation at the thought that her grandson is to be brought up by a homosexual.
