A dream sensation revolves the story of the cold Tolzbad`s habitants, a city at the foot of a mountain. The local people are used to the fearful sensation of having the city destroyed by an avalanche. This fear is taught to the children, who normally speak low and are self-repressed. The central points of the plot are the two brothers Johann and Grigorss. The first one is engaged to Klara, but has peculiar feelings for his own mother, Zenaida. He likes to watch her when she’s working and taking shower. This attraction becomes an obsession when Johann has an erotic dream with his mother and decides to punish himself for that. Grigorss, who has just graduated at the butler’s school, is hired by the mysterious Count Knotgers, and later finds out the real intentions of his boss. The German expressionism is a parameter for this satire about characters whose desires and feelings are completely repressed. The director also uses inter-titles and painting in the film, giving Careful the aspect of a silent movie production.
