Hilário is Italian, a former opera singer, and the owner of a shop for electrical fixtures. Peneira and Sonhador are two street poets from the northeast of Brazil. Sérgio is Syrian and the owner of a shop together with his brother. Leke is a Nigerian, son of Ogum, selling African goods. These are a few of the 12 million inhabitants of São Paulo, the largest city in Brazil. They are foreign immigrants who experience the urban transformation and are part of the great melting pot - from the very first, the hallmark of the city. The documentary draws a parallel between the world of the city and the private world of these inhabitants with a blend of scenes from the files and ancient photographs.
