Sentenced to Marriage (2004)
Sobre o filme
Tâmara, Michelle, and Rachel are three young married women in the midst of a bitter struggle in a religious court for the right to get a divorce from their husbands. To grant the divorce, the court demands the consent of the husbands who, through a whim, deny them this right. Even in Israel, a democratic country, the law is in connivance with the pain and suffering of these women. Because they are still legally and, to all intents and purposes, married, they are by law prohibited from having any other relationship. Young and anonymous, they are doomed to solitude and are continually silenced. For two years, the documentary follows along with the via-crucis of these women, who will tackle the possible and the impossible to obtain a divorce. Only a small group of dedicated women lawyers are there to act on their behalf.
