When Guy Malyon, a bright but broke intellectual, meets the beautiful millionaire Gilda Bessé, it’s love at first sight. Their romance, however, turns sour not only because of their social differences but also in the face of the political upheavals of the1930’s. The couple moves to Paris and the young woman introduces Guy to her circle of friends. Among them is Mia, a cabaret dancer studying to be a nurse. Mia and Guy are much keener on political issues than the aristocratic Gilda and both go to fight in the Spanish Civil War. Years later, Guy and Gilda meet in Paris again. The Second World War has just broken out and Guy is an agent working for the British Secret Service. While on duty, he finds out a secret about Gilda, which poses a threat not only to their relationship but also to her own life.
