Over the course of a summer in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone, during the military dictatorship, a golden youth lives in tune with bossa nova. Marcia drifts through life as a typical “Girl from Ipanema,” caught between fleeting romances and her own growing anxiety about the future.
The new 2K digital copy was produced by the Image and Sound Laboratory of the Cinemateca Brasileira from a combined 16mm print. The remaining release
print of “The Girl from Ipanema” from 1967 was the last available source to bring the film back into circulation, since the original negatives have been lost.
