Miguel, a 7-year-old boy, lives with three generations of women in an isolated, old house. One of them is his mother, who, adrift in the trauma of her divorce, grows distant from him. Miguel finds refuge in Carmen, an enigmatic immigrant who fled Venezuela, leaving her own child behind, and who now works as a domestic worker for the Brazilian family. Carmen becomes an ambiguous maternal figure for the boy, who develops an intimate and unusual bond with her, opening up his inner world and introducing him to a universe where reality and imagination intertwine.
