Birju and Shona live in a slum in Kolkata with their 6-year-old daughter Munni. Every morning, the day begins when they go out to collect trash from various locations in one of the city’s wealthiest areas. The couple picks up some of their finds to illustrate the bedtime stories they tell Munni. This is the closest they have come to the wealthiest classes of society. The family’s life changes when a new battery-powered car becomes mandatory for the collections —in place of Birju’s old cart. With the contrast between the fantasies narrated to their daughter and Birju’s practical anxieties, we see the social and economic inequality while maintaining a warm perspective on the life of a family with dreams.
