On a moment in which cinema, following the changes brought by digital revolution, experiences new ways of producing, distributing, narrating and watching, the São Paulo International Film Festival promotes the III Audiovisual Ideas Market, which will bring together market representatives in a space dedicated to fostering, debating and negotiating.
The Ideas Market will happen between October 26th and 28th, at the Cinemateca Brasileira, and is based on three parallel events: the Market, where the players can propose themes of their interest; the Forum, which promotes broadening debates, about matters relevant to the Mostra; and From Word to Image, which explores the different aspects of the relationship between cinema and literature.
The Market was born in 2022, from an impulse of the sector itself, which, during the political and institutional crisis that hit Brazilian culture, was willing to guarantee the Mostra’s realization through financial support.
In its second year, the Market grew, reflecting the desire of players themselves to have a powerful market in São Paulo, and deepening, even more, the relationship between Mostra and Brazilian cinema.
The Market will include internationalization actions, promoting, for three days, encounters with exhibitors, international festival directors and sales agents.
The Forum is in its 7th edition and is known as a place in which cinema is discussed in its political, market, and aesthetic aspects. The Forum`s discussions always aim to encompass different — and sometimes contradictory — perspectives.
The panels at the VII Forum will shed light on topics such as the crisis of the Brazilian cinema`s market share, the films made for the child and adolescent audience, and the new ways of watching enabled by podcasts, audiobooks, and new accessibility features.
The "From Word to Image" encounter, which was born with the Forum in 2017, has taken on a life of its own, reflecting the centrality of the relationship between films, series, and books in this era in which different formats feed into each other.
On October 28th, the traditional pitching of unreleased books published by some of the country`s leading publishers, open to all professionals, will take place. The possibilities and challenges of the connection between literature and cinema will be at the center of the closing panel of the III Audiovisual Ideas Market.
