New Directors Competition
An intimate and musically profound portrait that aims to recover the identity of three musical genres that are legacies of the African continent: the blues, from Mississippi, the rumba, from Havana, and the jongo, from Rio. Having the African diaspora as a starting point, the documentary investigates the common birthplace, as well as the geographical and instrumental particularities, of these three world renowned musical rhythms. Director Jefferson Mello traveled to six countries —Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Brazil, USA and Cuba— to investigate the ancestry roots in these genres through the eyes of the three main characters and their beautiful stories.
