International Perspective
Wang Xilin, 86, is one of China’s most important modern classical composers. During the Cultural Revolution, his public critique of the Communist Party earned him years of persecution, including imprisonment and torture. With excerpts from his symphonies, the film exhibits the scars of a man marked by a life of suffering, but yet still capable of sincere compassion. He revisits some of the horrifying events that still live on in his memory, testimonies to an era.
Exhibited at the Cannes Film Festival and at New York Film Festival.
