Retrospective | Michelangelo Antonioni
Four variations on the theme of love, in four different cities by a director in search of inspiration for his next film. In Ferrara, two young people meet, lose track of each other and find each other again. Always platonically. In Portofino a man meets a woman and after a night together he discovers her awful secret. In Paris a man can’t break off an adulterous affair with a younger woman. In Aix-en-Provence, a young man courts a young woman he met on the street and discovers in the end that she is going to enter a convent the next day.
Winner of Critics’ Prize at the 1995 Venice International Film Festival.
