Born in China, Ye Ying graduated in directing from the Beijing Film Academy, in 1986. In 1988, he wrote the script for the film “Half Sea Water, Half Flames”. Two years later, he directed “A Long Deep Breath”. From 1990 to 1994, he was the director of the company Shenzhen Xianke Amusement Communication. He directed the film “Red Cherry” (1995, 20th Mostra), which broke box office records in China. He also directed the features “A Time to Remember” (1998) and “Tiananmen” (2009).
