Born in Ceará, Brazil, in 1953. He is a director, screenwriter and producer. He began his film career in 1975 and in the 80s he debuted as a director of feature films with “O Caldeirão da Santa Cruz do Deserto” (1986). Among his films are “A Saga do Guerreiro Alumioso” (1993), “Corisco e Dadá” (1996), “Lua Cambará - Nas Escadarias do Palácio” (2002), “Patativa do Assaré: Ave Poesia” (2007), “ Siri-Ará” (2008, 33rd Mostra), “Os Pobres Diabos” (2013), “Notícias do Fim do Mundo” (2019) and “Os Escravos de Jó” (2020), presented and awarded at national and international film festivals. He was director of institutions of the audiovisual sector and member of the Conselho Superior de Cinema. He has a degree in philosophy, with a PhD in artistic education from the University of Porto and the University of Lisbon.
