Born in Iran in 1962. He graduated from Tehran Cinema College, and after directing several shorts, he workerd as a directing assistant for Jafar Panahi in “The White Balloon” (1995, 19th Mostra). His first feature, “Traveler from the South” (1997), was awarded at the Tokyo International Film Festival. He also made “Deep Breath” (2002), presented in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the Cannes Film Festival and at the 27th Mostra, “Karat 14” (2007), “Trapped” (2013) and “Malaria” (2016), screened at the Venice International Film Festival.
