Laura Amelia was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1980. She graduated from the Altos de Chavón Academy in the Dominican Republic, where she specialised in visual art and photography. With Israel Cárdenas, she directed the films “Cochochi” (2007, 31st Mostra), “Jean Gentil” (2010, 34th Mostra), “Carmita” (2013), “Sand Dollars” (2014, 38th Mostra), “Sambá” (2017, 41st Mostra) and “Holy Beasts” (2019, 43rd Mostra), presented in film festivals like Berlin, Venice, Toronto and Tribeca.
