Born in Hokkaido, Japan, in 1974. He studied at the Osaka University of Arts. His graduation film, “Kichiku: Banquet of the Beasts” (1998), premiered in the Berlinale Panorama section. Among his feature films are “Hole in the Sky” (2001), winner of the Critics Prize at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, “Antena” (2003), presented at the Venice International Film Festival, “Sketches of Kaitan City” (2010), screened at the Tokyo Film Festival, “My Man” (2014) and “Mukoku” (2017).
