Born in Brussels, Belgium, and settled in France. Anthropologist, philosopher and professor, Lévi-Strauss, together with his wife, Dina Dreyfus, an ethnologist and also an anthropologist, directed some short films during the period in which the couple lived in Brazil, in the 1930s, such as “Trabalhos do Gado no Curral de uma Fazenda do Sul do Mato Grosso” (1935), “A Vida de uma Aldeia Bororo” (1935), “Rio Vermelho/Cerimônias Funerais entre os Índios Bororo II” (1935), “Aldeia de Nalike” (1935-1936) and “Festa do Divino Espírito Santo” (1936).
