Christian Petzold

Born in Hilden, Germany, in 1960, he studied German and theater at the Freie Universität and film direction at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB). He worked as an assistant director of Harun Farocki and Hartmut Bitomsky. He is the director of feature films such as "The State I Am In" (2000); "Wolfsburg" (2003), winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the Berlinale; "Ghosts" (2005); "Yella" (2007), winner of the Silver Bear for best actress at the Berlin International Film Festival; "Jerichow" (2008); "Barbara" (2012), screened at the 36th Mostra and winner of the Silver Bear for best director at the Berlin International Film Festival; "Phoenix" (2014), screened at the 43rd Mostra; "Transit" (2018); and "Undine", winner of the Critics Grand Prize and the Silver Bear for best actress for Paula Beer at the Berlinale.
