Born in Istanbul, she moved to the USA at age 18, where she studied photography at Yale University and filmmaking at the New York University School of the Arts. Her first film was a short, “Razan” (2006), which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Following that, she directed the documentary “Overdrive: Istanbul in the New Millennium” (2011). “Afloat” is her first fiction feature.
