Born in Coimbra, Portugal, in 1970. In 1994, he enrolled at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School. In 1996, he moved to Germany to study at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB). He directed films such as the medium-length “Breathing (Under Water)” (2000), the short “It Wasn’t God’s Will” (2007), and the features “Forget Everything That I Told You” (2002), “Embargo” (2010, 34th Mostra), “Pedro and Inês” (2018, 42nd Mostra), and “A Bela América” (2023, 47th Mostra). His films have been screened at festivals including Cannes, Rotterdam, Karlovy Vary, Montreal, and Tallinn Black Nights. A naturalized Brazilian, he lives between Brazil and Portugal, where he co-runs the production company Persona Non Grata Pictures with Tathiani Sacilotto.
