I’ll Sing for You (2001)
Sobre o filme
Documentary on Malinese guitarrist and singer Boubacar Traoré, known as Kar-Kar. His life and music can not be dissociated from the turbulent history of his country, one of the poorest nations in the world. In the early sixties, when Mali was newly independent from France, people began to awaken each morning to the melancholic voice of Traoré on the radio, singing songs that were to become hits such as Kar-Kar Madison and Mali Twist. In his militant songs, he called on Malinese citizens to return to their country and be part of the reconstruction of the country. As from this time, inspite of twenty years of self-exile from the stage, Traoré was become a synonym of dance, of joy, and political commitment. During the documentary, he remains in silence and allows others the task of emphasizing his importance in the history of Mali. Traoré limits himself to singing and, each time, the air resounds with the suffering and the hopes of all of a nation.
