Verônica has been a teacher on the municipal teaching network now for twenty years and, at this time, on the verge of retiring, and experiencing severe personal problems, she is exhausted and not her usual patient self. One day, at the school where she works, she realizes that nobody has come to fetch Leandro, an 8-year-old. It is late at night when the teacher decides to take him home. She reaches the top of the hill and comes face to face with the police and a great deal of havoc. Drug dealers have killed Leandro`s parents and want to kill him too. Verônica runs away with the boy. She seeks help and discovers that the police are also connected to the assassinations. Not able to trust anyone, she decides to hide the boy. And Verônica is compelled to face the police and the drug dealers in order to survive. And, meanwhile, looking for a way to escape with the boy, she re-discovers feelings that lay dormant in her solitary, difficult life.
