Sobre o filme

Based on the classical novel by the same name by Michael Noonan, this is the story of four teen-age orphans who grow up cloistered in a Catholic convent in the Australian desert in the 1960s. They look on while younger children are adopted by loving families and come to the conclusion that, one year older as they are with every passing year, chances of being adopted may never be theirs. When the convent sends the boys to a beach area one summer, they at last see hope on the horizon. During their stay, the boys meet a young couple who cannot have children and come to believe these might be the ideal parents. The older of the boys, Maps, is drawn to Lucy a pretty girl there. Competing to establish the best candidate for adoption, he and the other boys, Sparks, Misty, and Spit, put their friendship to a cruel test, with feelings of rejection rising to the surface. Bonds of friendship eventually prevail over rivalry and seal the strong links that always bound the December boys leading them to discover the real sense of friendship, family, and love.
