Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Sobre o filme
Sam Goldfarb lives alone on Coney Island. With a widowed, extremely strange Jewish mother, Sara lives in the obsessive hopes of one day being invited to mount the stage of the TV program she watches daily. And with this absolute certainty in mind, she submits to a rigid diet so that she will one day be able to fit into the red dress she has chosen for the great occasion. Her son, Harry, heavily addicted, thinks only of drugs and spending the afternoons with his girlfriend Marion and his friend Tyrone. Together they endeavor to forget monotonous reality imagining naïve visions of an earthly paradise. In a reckless attempt to procure a better life, the maladjusted foursome are dragged down into a crazy spiral of mistakes and disillusion. Day after day, Sara, Harry, Marion, and Tyrone, move steadily in the direction of God knows where. The movie is based on the classical book “Last Exit to Brooklin”, by the scriptwriter Hubert Selby Jr. This book originated already the violent production Last Exit to Brooklin, with Jennifer Jason Leigh.
