The Goddess (1960)
Sobre o filme
Kalikinkar Roy is a man of strong ideologicaal conviction and a great devotee of the Goddess Kali. He has two children. The oldest is called Tarapada, concerned only in not displeasing his father so that he will not be forgotten in the inheritance. The younger son, Umaprasad, whose wife Daya is Kalikinkar`s favorite, has almost nothing in common with his brother. He studies at a college in Calcutta and regards his father`s religious fanaticism as typical of ignorant, antiquated people. One day Kalikinkar has a dream that leads him to believe that Daya is an incarnation of the Goddess Kali. He makes known his vision and, from night to day, Daya is raised to the condition of a divinity in her country. Umaprasad is concerned about the new position his wife occupies, when she is stopped in the street to bless people and to work miracles, and he decides to run away with her.
