Passaporte (2001)
Sobre o filme
Jóska leaves the desolate province where he lives in a remote region of Hungary and sets forth for Ucrania. We are in the early nineties, the “beginning of the end” for the East European countries. The boy undertakes the journey to marry Elizavéta and bring her with him. Jóska and Elizavéta have high hopes for their marriage. One way or another, one can serve as “passport” for the other to attain a more pleasurable existence. However, reality is going to move in a direction contrary to what the lovers would wish. Elizavéta is to find a sinister environment where poverty and alcoholism are the common denominator and which will eventually destroy her happiness. Disaster awaits her at the end of the line. This panel of material and moral decadence in the region, according to Director Peter Gothár, does not concern only the countries in the East. “The film goes far beyond. Passport aspires to be a general study on the situation of humanity at the end of the millenium.”
