Sobre o filme

Ivan has spent a lifetime in the grips of alcoholism. One day, he decides to rise and endeavor to carry on minus a glass in one hand: he joins a rehabilitation program. As fate would have it, because of a doctors’ strike, he is discharged one day before the end of the treatment. His first day spent with the family was sheer delight: Ivan reveled in the company of his wife, Sonja, full of hope at the prospect of a brighter future, without having to share her husband with bottles of beer. A new day dawns. Ivan is off to buy bread and milk at the corner bakery. Fate again crosses his path in the person of Armando, a former school friend. They make their way to a bar to go over old times. And Ivan learns that, before his involvement with Sonja, she and Armando had spent one night together. Ivan is so upset that, almost beyond his own will, he downs a dose of cognac. This is only the start. A few hours later, as drunk as an owl, he is to assume a series of attitudes, the outcome of which is a family tragedy.
