A man returns home after a long while. Freshly arriving out of prison, Enzo gets to the railway station near the historical port in Genoa. He makes his gradual way through low-lit cobblestone streets and narrow, deteriorating alleyways, to a modest apartment in the guetto of the old quarter. There his lover of 20 years, Mary, a self-effacing and shy transsexual, waits for him. Combining scenes from today and images from the past, the documentary uncovers a city both melancholy and audacious.
