The Man Without a Past (2001)
Sobre o filme
A man arrives in a very strange town where he is soon to become embroiled in confusion and beaten almost to death. This is the start of a tragicomedy of epic proportions. Aki Kaurismäki?s new film, however, can be seen as a lesson of love, in describing by what means this stranger who loses his memory after being almost lynched, rediscovers the enchantment of life in the humble districts of Helsinki. In the manner of a comedy, the director tells of how the character recovers with the help of an assistant from the Salvation Army. O Homem sem Passado de-constructs this small fable into short sketches, all with a minimum of dialog, as if social convention all of a sudden did not matter and where all that was left to people was to go straight to the point. The film touches on rock/pop culture in an environment of the excluded where solidarity redeems dignity.
