Three women have just been granted parole to leave prison. The prospects, however, could not be worse. In addition to having been convicted, they are women, and they live in an Islam society. Even free, they feel as if they were in a great prison. Their freedom is limited and their rights are pared down, cut down on every side by men. "This does not go for any one type of woman alone, but for all. As if each woman might substitute another, in a circle that renders them equal", emphasizes Director Jafar Panahi. Laden with dramatic intensity, The Circle humanizes the trajectory of three women of different desires and longings, however, equally, prey to day-to-day forms of repression.
