Sobre o filme

Poet and telegraph operator Florentino Ariza encounters the great love of his life when he sees Fermina Daza at the window of her father’s house. Writing passionate love letters, Florentino gradually wins his beloved. The girl’s father, however, is furious when he finds out about the romance and swears he will separate them forever. Fermina then marries the sophisticated aristocrat Dr Juvenal Urbino who has established order and provided medical care to the city of Cartagena, to counteract the cholera epidemic mysteriously rife in the city. The couple go to live in Paris for several years. In Cartagena, once more, Fermina still thinks of her first love. Neither has Florentino forgotten her. He is now a prosperous owner of boats with many love affairs, but his heart still beats for Fermina. He is patient and will wait all of a lifetime to have a chance to once again be with his beloved. An adaptation of the novel by the same name by Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Márquez. This is the second time that actress Fernanda Montenegro and composer Antonio Pinto are together in one same production - the first time being Central Station (1998).
