Nights (2000)
Sobre o filme
Pain, weakness, silence, despair. These are some of the feelings they must cope with - a couple, lost in drugs. However, as Director Cláudia Tomaz herself admits, it would be too simplistic to put things thus. Nights can be seen as the story of people who have made mistakes in life, but that, even so, continue in their search for happiness. The film is about despair in life, where there is no hope. The characters are, from the first, cast into an empty, sterile world of indifference. João and Teresa are confronted with their precarious existence in this veritable no-man?s-land. They are the shattered pillars of love that has become silent and painful: they share all - house, drugs, the emptiness, and privations of life. To render the situation even more dramatic, Teresa falls ill. João does all he can to help her, and bets on his love for her. He is also an addict and knows how to relieve the pain for the one he loves. Unhappily, however, this help also demands extra money, all of which obliges João to prostitute himself, accelerating a process of destruction, on course, to a tragic end.
