Moloch (1999)
Sobre o filme
Moloch is the name given to an evil deity worshipped by divers cultures of antiquity - Greek, Carthaginian, and by idolatrous Jews. This pagan idol, however, has always been associated with human sacrifice, known also as “Prince of the Vale of Tears” and “The Sower of Plague”. Moloch was the title chosen by Sokurov for a study of the day-to-day life of Adolph Hitler and Eva Braun. This controversial film was awarded the Prize for Best Script at the 1999 Cannes Festival and was shown at the 23rd Mostra. In the Bavarian Alps, a solitary Eva Braun receives the visit of the much-feared Führer. He is not alone: Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda and Martin Bormann, his chief adviser, are with him. Orders are not to talk of war, although this is the spring of 1942. The tension, however, is evident in the impatience and discontent in Eva. She knows she is no match to the devotion of her lover to the Reich, and she can no longer bear his absurd discourse and hypochondria. Even so, she is able to understand him. She is the only voice who dares contradict him.
