Sobre o filme

The controversial director of Happiness (1998) casts yet another bitter and pessimistic look at New Jersey (USA) and, by extension, over all of America. This time, as from the tragicomic and cruel scenario of American colleges, Todd Solondz follows the steps of his unbalanced youngsters to speak openly of sex, racism, celebrity culture, exploitation, and humiliation. Storytelling is divided into two stories: the first, named “Fiction”, centers on the life of Marcus, a would-be author who was born with some deformity owing to cerebral palsy. The second part, “Non-Fiction”, focuses on the life of Toby Oxman, a man of thirty or so years who is depressed and who takes it upon himself to make a documentary on suburban teenagers today. In his search for stories of life, Toby comes face to face with Scooby, a youngster who dreams of being a TV star with a family that is beset with problems.
