A drama based on the book of the same name, The Shipyard, one of the most important novels in Latin American literature. The book was written by a Uruguayan from Montevideo, Juan Carlos Onetti (1909-1994) in 1961, in Buenos Aires. In making the film, Director David Lipszyc was assisted in the adaptation by Argentine novelist Ricardo Piglia. Larsen returns to Santa Maria, a melancholic city on the banks of the River Plate in the fifties, five years subsequent to having been thrown out of town. He had been obliged to leave for having attempted to open a brothel in the city. Larsen is a gigolo and is now out for revenge. Women are to be his victims. First is to be the virgin daughter of Big Boss Jeremias Petrus. Next, in turn, is to be the solitary wife of one of his employees, Galvez, who is conspiring against him. The plot unfolds mid intrigues involving sex, power, and ambition, with intense characters and dismal fact that are to mark the desolate scene in that shipyard.
