Dolls (2001)
Sobre o filme
Three stories based on the emotions induced by the dolls in the bunraku theater. In the first, Matsumo and his girlfriend Sawako intend to get married, but the elders are not in favor, all of which leads the boy to a tragic choice. In the second, Hiro is a veteran, chief of the Mafia. He is lonely and in ill health. Thirty years previously when he worked in a factory, he had a girlfriend whom he later abandoned. Now, he returns once more to the park where they first met. Last of all, young Haruna Yamaguchi spends his days gazing out to sea, his face bandaged as a result of an accident. Before this, he was a pop star pursued by Nukui, his most enthusiastic fan. The director regards this as his most violent film: “The stories are on the same theme, passion, and a red strand running through that represents death”, says Kitano. Dolls includes luxurious costumes by Yohji Yamamoto.
