Djomeh (2000)
Sobre o filme
Djomeh is a young Afghan who works on a farm in the remote interior of Iran. Every morning he accompanies the owner of the farm, Mr Mahmoud, to villages in the vicinity to buy up and then re-sell milk.As opposed to his colleague and protector Habib, ingenuous Djomeh will not allow himself to be repressed because he is foreign. He is always smiling and talks openly, even in face of the cold suspicious gaze of the locals. Owing to Habib?s conservative character, Djomeh does not feel at ease to ask for advice. Not even when he falls in love with Setareh, a local girl. Unfortunately, rigid Iranian custom will not permit him to court her. Djomeh, however, does not give up: he asks his boss to intervene on his behalf - a courageous gesture that will cross all cultural frontiers in this award-winning film of the Caméra D?Or at the Cannes Festival, 2000.
