God Is My Co Pilot (2000)
Sobre o filme
Committed to making the third commandment into a film (“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain”), director Karin Junger investigated the lives of the pilots responsible for the bombing over Kosovo in 1999. Entirely filmed on board the USS Roosevelt aircraft carrier, the largest in the U.S. navy, God is My Co-Pilot shows that there is not a single day in the day-to-day life of the war pilots without a church meeting, hymns, and prayers. Faith plays a central role in their lives, as proven by statements set down by Junger. They speak openly of their fears, pride, a great deal of emotion that they feel in the course of the mission, and the moral dilemmas they are obliged to face. The documentary also shows the religious meetings that precede each air raid. The Chaplain on board ship states that his fundamental role is to re-inforce in the pilots the conviction that the Almighty does not disapprove of their work. And that they spill out their bombs “in the name of God”.
