Director Ang Lee from Taiwan proves how eclectic he is with this adventure in the Mid-West of the United States during the Civil War. On one side is Jack Bull Chiles, a proud son of the South of the country, who goes forth to fight for the confederate cause after his father is killed by Union troops. He is in the company of his friend Jake Roedel, even though his family is an ally of the Union. The group consists, also, of brave Black John, Pitt, George, the rider, and Daniel, the slave. The director goes deeper into the history of the United States and makes a critical and precise portrait of the country.
